Acceptance testing for integrations is the process of verifying that the end-to-end business workflows, which span across multiple integrated systems, meet the specified business requirements and user acceptance criteria. From a manual QA perspective, this involves validating the seamless flow of data, transactions, and user experiences across system boundaries, ensuring data integrity, correct message formats, and appropriate error handling. It's the final gate before UAT, focusing on the external behavior and value delivered.

My approach involves:

  1. Requirement Analysis & Test Design: I collaborate closely with Product Managers and Business Analysts to thoroughly understand the integration specifications, API contracts (if applicable for external interfaces), and most importantly, the critical business processes that traverse these integrated systems. We then design comprehensive end-to-end manual test scenarios. This includes positive flows, edge cases, error conditions (e.g., system unavailability, invalid data), and security considerations from a functional perspective. Requirement Coverage is a key metric here, ensuring all integrated functionalities are mapped to test cases, reducing the risk of Defect Leakage.

  2. Execution Strategy: Test execution focuses on simulating real-world user interactions. This typically involves using system UIs to trigger actions in one system and then validating the corresponding outcomes in the integrated system(s) via their UIs, reports, or (where accessible) log analysis. Data transformation, mapping, and integrity checks are paramount. Exploratory testing is crucial to uncover unforeseen interdependencies or regressions that often arise in complex integrated environments. Test Execution Progress is tracked daily, providing visibility into our validation completeness and identifying potential blockers early.
