I also engage Developers to assess technical complexity, new vs. legacy code, and integration points. Past incident reports and defect trends are reviewed.
  2. Risk Assessment & Prioritization: For each identified area or feature, we assign a "risk score" based on two factors:
    • Likelihood: Probability of a defect occurring (e.g., complex logic, new technology, tight deadlines, previous defect density).
    • Impact: Severity of the defect if it occurs (e.g., critical business functionality, financial loss, data corruption, security breach, legal compliance). This allows us to categorize risks (High, Medium, Low).
  3. Test Strategy & Design (Manual Focus): Based on the risk assessment:
    • High-Risk Areas: These receive the most rigorous attention. I design deep functional test cases, extensive exploratory testing sessions, and focused regression analysis without relying on code.
